HISTORY

The power ring created by the Guardians of the Universe was one of the most advanced weapons ever devised, but due to a necessary impurity in the power ring it possessed a vulnerability to the color yellow. An experienced Green Lantern was aware of this limitation and did his, her, or its best to compensate for the weakness, but even a Green Lantern can make mistakes. In the hands of a novice with absolutely no experience results may differ...

Chasing a trio of bandits on a desert world, Green Lantern Bruks was struck down by a yellow energy weapon and left for dead. Sometime afterwards, a wanderer found the Green Lantern's body and took the power ring from Bruks’ finger, not knowing the significance of what he now possessed.

Startled by the ring's sudden glow, the wandering man fell on top of a yellow cactus. He remembered cactuses contained water but could not get past the sharp needles. Thirsty from the dry desert heat, dreamed if he had a scabbard he could cut open the cactus and enjoy the water. The power ring generated an emerald scabbard and the man, though surprised by this magic, tried to chop the desert plant open. The scabbard shattered against the yellow plant.

The man thought he could fly with the ring to get to his destination but when he took to the air a sudden gust of wind blew the desert's yellow sand at him, cutting short his flight. The man was continuously frustrated by the ring's shortcomings. When he thought of making a drink by using the ring he had to spit out the foul tasting liquid. When he tried to create a storm to bring rain he found himself almost hit by yellow lightning.

Finally he gave up in disgust, taking the ring off his finger and dropping next to the body of Green Lantern Bruks. The wanderer continued on his walk through the desert, the power ring still waits for a new wielder. - Green Lantern Corps Annual #3

BLACK LANTERN: BRUKS

During the event known as the Blackest Night, black rings desecrated the Crypts. The ring placed itself upon Bruks' corpse, downloaded all of his memories and created a duplicate of his body that rose from the grave as a member of the Black Lantern Corps. Blackest Night #1

Bruks was named in Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps Secret Files #1. He is number 19 as seen in the Crypts. It is likely "Bruks" is named after Penciller Greg Brooks.
