Synopsis:
Batwing has been solicited by Batman to act as a crimefighter in Tinasha, Democratic Republic of Congo as a member of Batman, Inc. Batman lets Batwing know that he must "create his own myth". Batwing is told by his mentor that a man dressed up in a bat won't place the fear of god into African criminals, as they have seen so much. Batman tells him, "You have to just sell it."
In his secret identity as David Zavimbe, Batwing serves on the Tinasha Police Department. The Department has its share of corruption, but Zavimbe has at least one honest ally in Kia Okuru. His occupation keeps Batwing informed of the latest crime scenes and helps him to keep an eye on the rest of the force. Like Batman, Batwing employs non-lethal methods in his quest for justice.
At the beginning of the issue Batwing battles Massacre. A flashback provides more information about Batwing, including his headquarters, The Haven and his assistant Matu Ba. Matu Ba Matu runs rehabilitation programs for children who had been drafted into warfare. The flashback also shows a battle with Blood Tiger, a leader in the local drug trade.
Also, the flashback shows that at a previous crime scene involving Massacre, it was discovered was of his victims was Dede Yeboah, a former superhero previously active in Africa. Earth Strike was a founding member of The Kingdom, Africa's first super-team. The Kingdom appeared around the same time as the Justice League, approximately five years ago, but The Kingdom shortly thereafter disappeared after ending a revolution in Congo and no one has heard from them since.
