HISTORY
A Lieutenant Colonel in the Soviet Air Force, Anya Savenlovich was chosen to be part of the top secret Project Helios. Launched into Earth orbit in 1964, the cosmonaut reported an explosion in the second stage rockets and would not be heard from again for the next thirty-five years. Adrift in space, Savenlovich and her capsule were frozen, keeping her alive for the intervening years.
Traveling across the stars recruiting Green Lanterns to form a new Corps, Kyle Rayner had met up with alien bounty hunter Hammeroon. The alien's spaceship detected Savenlovich's distress signal and at Rayner's urging, the two rescued the cosmonaut. After she was thawed out, the news of her long hibernation came as quite a shock to her.
Arriving at their destination, the Waystation spaceport, it was not long before Rayner and Hammeroon were involved in a brawl. Helping defend Garl Rathbone, a miner who worked the Daffath debris belt, from numerous attackers, the trio and their opponents were soon apprehended by Waystation security and taken to trial. Judge Sool, the law on Waystation, sentenced Rayner, Hammeroon and Rathbone to Roundaway, a prison ship that circled the Bri'r Nine system on the outer spiral. To rescue her friends, Savenlovich took a piece of the heating system from Hammeroon's starship and bluffed the court, claiming it was a bomb. The distraction gave her friends the time needed to retake their weapons. Wielding his power ring, Rayner was able to cut through the decks of Waystation and lead his friends in an escape. - Green Lantern: The New Corps #1
Anya and her comrades found a brief respite on a Samaritan House on the third moon of B'llth Nine. It was not long before Judge Sool arrived. He had tracked them through Hammeroon's creditline. Rayner went to face Judge Sool but they found themselves threatened by a greater force. An energy wave swept over their position, destroying everything it came in contact with. In seconds, all that remained was Rayner, Anya, Garl, Sool, Hammeroon, the Samaritan House and some of the moon it was built on.
To assist him in finding the cause of the destructive anomaly, Rayner gave each of the four their own power rings and batteries. Each spoke an oath of their own creation while recharging their rings. They would be Green Lanterns.
Nearing the center of the anomaly, this new Green Lantern Corps came under fire by a small fleet. The energy weapons quickly changed to the yellow spectrum when the attackers realized they were facing Green Lanterns. Their enemies were the Van'n, and Rayner had given a ring to their leader, Magaan. The Green Lanterns would have to do battle with Magaan and the legions of forces on the homeworld of the Van'n Imperium. Rayner took the lead to draw fire and ultimately confront Magaan while the four new Green Lanterns searched the planet for a control center.
When a turret turned upon other Van'n fighters, the Green Lanterns believed they had found an ally. Phothus, the brain of the Van'n homeworld had become self aware and opposed Magaan's plans for conquest. To shut down the antimatter wave, Phothus needed the Green Lanterns to unearth and disconnect an inhibitor device. Anya, Garl Rathbone and Sool set about the task while Hammeroon defended the fortress which housed Phothus. Hammeroon gave his life to protect their position from being overrun by the millions of soldiers loyal to Magaan.
The Green Lanterns and Phothus were successful at ending the antimatter wave, but in doing so they had initiated a doomsday device which threatened the planet's already unstable core. Regrouping with Rayner after he had defeated Magaan, the Green Lanterns combined their power to create a force bubble around their vicinity while the area outside the bubble was engulfed in fiery destruction.
Rayner was aware his choice of Magaan as a ring wielder had brought disastrous consequences. He chose to take back the rings and return to Earth. He would need more time and experience before he would be ready to recruit a new Green Lantern Corps. Learning from Rayner that the Soviet Union she knew was long gone, Anya Savenlovich chose to stay in space. She joined with Sool and Garl Rathbone in creating an intergalactic crime fighting team known as "The Corps." - Green Lantern: The New Corps #2
Recently, the Corps has been joined by three new members. Nothing is known about the pasts of Bekk H'wat and Way, but the third new member, Sinara, is a former smuggler and has supplied the Corps with her own starship as a base of operations. She currently challenges Sool for leadership.
