HISTORY
Some twenty five years ago, Anthene Vok had been a soldier serving in the Armin Poth War. Her unit was tasked with suppressing an insurrection on the Shore of Gulbray but found the area had been devastated by tsunamis. The planned naval attack became a rescue mission. It was where she found an orphaned girl, a Gulbradian Chimera who would become her adopted daughter, Liseth Vok.[1]
More recently, while serving as Regent of Ungara, Anthene Vok commanded the military transport Brinkmanship during the critical evacuation of the planet Mol. In this humanitarian effort, the Ungarans provided crucial support to Earth's Green Lanterns, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. Anthene held a deep conviction that her generation had become insular, retreating from challenges, which she believed had ultimately led to anger, conflict and ultimately war. She hoped to inspire the next generation by showcasing the Ungarans at their best.
With this in mind, Anthene brought Liseth along for the mission, aiming to demonstrate the noble spirit and capabilities of her people. However, this hopeful endeavor took a dire turn when a shield failure occurred, critically injuring Liseth and threatening the entire evacuation.[2]
Liseth's life was saved by Lantern Baz as he shared energy to heal her mortal wounds. The rescue of the Molites was successful as the refugees were brought to Ungara. This was quickly put in jeopardy as Commander Erekil Psyt, Vok's second-in-command, had been murdered, with evidence pointing to the actions of a Molite.[3]
The true murderer was soon revealed to be Kesh Cur, a fanatical member of the nativist supremacist organization known as the Red Tide. Cur had deliberately stoked the flames of intolerance pervading Ungara, aiming to purge the planet of all alien influence. Shockingly, it was later discovered that Liseth Vok was also aligned with the Red Tide.[4]
Cur's plan involved utilizing the Surge Engine, a device originally created by Anthene Vok during the Armin Poth War. He used it to impart the various powers of aliens who had sought refuge on Ungara, seemingly to empower his extremist agenda. However, Cur's treachery ultimately led to his downfall. Liseth Vok, having also used the Surge Engine to imbue herself with alien powers, proved to be as zealous as Cur, leading to his demise.[5]
Empowered and consumed by an insatiable hunger for power, Liseth Vok sought to rally the Ungarans around an aggressive anti-alien sentiment. Faced with her daughter's destructive path, Anthene Vok had no recourse but to align herself with the Green Lanterns in a direct confrontation. The battle was intense, with the fate of Ungara hanging in the balance. Ultimately, it was Simon Baz's decisive action — reclaiming some of the emerald energy he had shared — that allowed them to finally overpower and defeat Liseth.[6]
Anthene Vok decided to retire from public life, dedicating herself to caring for Liseth. She was last seen when a fugitive Jessica Cruz who was at the time on the run from the Green Lantern Corps.[7]
