HISTORY
Little is known about Amphazeep, Frog Demon of the Depths, before his escape from imprisonment in Hell. Upon reaching the mortal plane, he ventured into the stars. Amphazeep would convert a planet's population into its "children" through forced de-evolution. He came to the attention of, and was captured by, the Green Lantern Corps, an act which reversed the process. Amphazeep was subsequently imprisoned in the Sciencells on Oa as Prisoner 8201890. This proved to be only a minor setback, as the Frog Demon soon escaped once again. Arriving on Earth, Amphazeep began transforming the population of Coast City.

Opposition quickly arose in the form of Jason Blood, who was soon overwhelmed by the Frog Demon's brood. Green Lantern Hal Jordan arrived, seeking to contain the situation, while Blood transformed into Etrigan. The two heroes initially clashed, with Jordan viewing the escaped Sciencell prisoner as his responsibility while it threatened Coast City, and Etrigan believing only magic could defeat the Frog Demon.
Etrigan drew the Frog Demon's attention by attacking his brood, an action Jordan mistakenly took as harming innocents. Jordan's power ring proved ineffective against the Frog Demon, and Etrigan's raw strength also failed to make a significant impact. Realizing their individual efforts were futile, the two were forced to set aside their rivalry and Jordan took Etrigan's lead. Working together, Green Lantern bound the Frog Demon while reciting his oath. Upon learning Prisoner 8201890's true name, Etrigan was able to banish Amphazeep back to Hell.
This act restored Amphazeep's "children" back to their human forms. Amphazeep has not been heard from since.[1]
