HISTORY
On his 104th birthday, Al-X's parents surprised their son by entering him into the annual Green Lantern Cadet Program held by the Guardians of the Universe. As part of the training program, cadets are placed into juvenile detention facilities with minimal protection. They are tested by their wits and stamina to either survive or escape. Al-X was sent to Takron-Galtos. [1]
During this training, Rex Luthor, a young criminal with an obsession of Earth's villains attempted a jail break, having allied himself with other juveniles, giving them costumes and in some cases powers and weapons. Al-X was given a costume matching that of Sinestro.[2]
Al-X had been planning an escape route as part of his training, which came in useful as he met Robin and Superboy who were trying to prevent Rex Luthor and his Gang from attacking Earth.
A Vroom Tube took the trio from Takron-Galtos to Leone-5 where they added another to their band, a robotic replica of Jonah Hex. Al-X's experience with A.I. engineering helped the Hex robot free itself from programming which kept it bound to Leone-5.
POWERS AND WEAPONS
As a Green Lantern cadet, Al-x possessed a power ring, though it was older technology which sometimes featured the yellow impurity. It is not known if he was given a power battery as well.
