HISTORY

When the Central Power Battery on Oa was destroyed, the power rings of Green Lanterns across the universe disintegrated. One such Green Lantern was Adara. She had been a Green Lantern for years, protecting space sector 62. Her power ring disintegrated during a fight with Corellian privateers. She would have been killed, except the privateers captured her. She later managed to escape.[1]

Adara met Kyle Rayner in an alien cantina, where he had been involved in a bar fight. She was surprised to see a Green Lantern with a working power ring. Being a Green Lantern was the only thing that mattered to Adara. She stole Kyle's ring in an attempted to be a Green Lantern again. The ring would not work, and Adara was almost killed trying to be a Green Lantern.

A modification of the standard power ring the corps used to have, Kyle's ring couldn't be used by anyone else except for him. Emotionally overwhelmed by the realization she would never again be a Green Lantern, Adara committed suicide.[2]

Months later, in a bid to gain immortality, Justice League of America villain Felix Faust unleashed supernatural forces and allowed the dead to rise once more. A number of Justice Leaguers found themselves face-to-face with friends and enemies who had left the mortal plane.[3]

Adara was one of over a dozen deceased Green Lanterns that returned as well, erupting from beneath the soil of the planetform Green Lantern, Mogo. Kilowog, Tomar-Re, Tomar-Tu, Chaselon, and other Green Lanterns attacked Kyle Rayner, twisted into blaming him for their deaths and the fall of the Corps. Adara believed that Rayner allowed the Corps to fall so that he would be the only ring wielder in the universe. Wielding power rings fueled by the energies of the afterlife, Adara and the other dead Green Lanterns tried to kill Rayner for their master.

The Green Lanterns were under the thrall of Nekron, Lord of the Unliving. It was their return to the universe that opened a gateway for him to once more try to leave his realm. Nekron's power had grown after his latest defeat, making his grip on the spirits of the dead absolute.

Nekron himself tried to kill Rayner but the Green Lantern resisted. Rayner plunged into Nekron's realm just as Hal Jordan had years before. He relished the chance to kill the last Green Lantern and with Rayner's death enlarge the gateway to the land of the living.

Rayner escaped Nekron's clutches only to be surrounded by the corpses of the Green Lanterns awaiting him. Though it was difficult for him, Rayner was forced to kill the Green Lanterns once more. Adara herself was shot, before she could slay Rayner. Once the Green Lanterns were laid to rest again the rift to close in upon itself.

Nekron remains imprisoned within his realm, once more his only avenue of escape and conquest was closed off. It is presumed the dead Green Lanterns moved on to another plane of existence, free from his domination.[4]

Adara was memorialized in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps on Oa.[5]

BLACK LANTERN: ADARA

During the event known as the Blackest Night, black rings desecrated the Crypts. The ring placed itself upon her corpse, downloaded all of her memories and created a duplicate of her body that rose from the grave as a member of the Black Lantern Corps.[6]

POWERS AND WEAPONS
