HISTORY
Circa 2000 B.C., a meteorite crashed near what is now called Mont Castelle, Switzerland, and imbued a boy named Loron with psychic powers. As an adult, Loron founded the underground civilisation Abyssia.
The Outsiders (II) learned of Abyssia's existence while investigating the disappearance of Emily Briggs. Emily was a descendant of Loron and the Abyssians had kidnapped her to preserve the power of his lineage. Two siblings of Abyssia's royal family, Prince Mardo and Princess Tamira, competed for that power. Following old prophecies, Tamira exposed Emily to a passing comet that gave her psychic powers and transformed her into the superheroine called Looker. Mardo forced Looker to kill Tamira, but was in turned killed by Katana. Looker chose to join the Outsiders and leave Abyssia in the hands of the people.
However, Tamira had survived. During the Millennium event, Abyssia was invaded by the alien Manhunters. Although they were defeated by the Outsiders, Tamira used the situation to return to power. In the ensuing battle with the Outsiders, Tamira fell into a pit of lava. Still later, the evil vampire Roderick took control of the land. Tamira returned once again and joined forces with the Outsiders to overthrow Roderick. During the battle, Tamira ignited a reality-altering bomb, which reverted Roderick to human after which he was executed by Geo-Force. Tamira was herself slain (finally this time) by Faust.
Abyssia is currently a free country ruled by the people.
