HISTORY

When her mother and new step-father decided to move to Blue Valley, away from her usual city haunts, Courtney was not best pleased. So, when she discovered that her stepfather Pat Dugan used to be the hero Stripesy, she took up the identity of a new Star-Spangled Kid mainly to annoy him, but has discovered that she finds it pretty good fun. She uses the original's cosmic converter belt in her butt-kicking, which gives her increased strength and an as-yet undefined number of other abilities.

Courtney was allowed to join the new JSA group, and although she can get on the nerves of the other members, she has forged fairly strong bonds with Hawkgirl and Atom Smasher, the latter of whom remembers what it was like being a novice hero around the JSA. She is not looked upon too kindly by a number of established heroes, but recently proved herself, most notably to Merry Pemberton, sister of the original Kid, when leading the de-aged Justice Society on a mission to space. As an indirect result of this, she was chosen by Starman Jack Knight to carry on his tradition and has been given his cosmic rod. At first she didn't feel she could do this, but she came to accept the task and now calls herself Stargirl, using both the cosmic converter belt and the cosmic rod in her crimefighting activities.
