Comment(s):
- This story takes place starting in 1903, carrying over many months and into 1904, with flashforward portions to the modern day.
- The story is based in part on the tale of Elmer McCurdy, an Oklahoma outlaw killed in 1911. When no one showed to claim his body, the funeral home made a display piece of the embalmed remains, charging a nickel per visitor. His body was later taken by a travelling carnival and was passed from show to show over the decades. Eventually, the mummified remains were thought to be a mannequin until the arm broke off during filming of an episode of the Six Million Dollar Man in December 1976. Ultimately, McCurdy was buried in 1977. By order of the Oklahoma state medical examiner, two cubic yards of concrete poured over the coffin to prevent McCurdy from being used for display again.
