HISTORY

A teenage boy from El Paso, Texas, Jaime Reyes was pretty ordinary until he discovered a beetle-shaped rock which fell from the sky following the destruction of the Rock of Eternity. Fascinated by this find, he took it home, where it crawled up to him in the night and attached itself to his spine. It was the scarab used by the original Blue Beetle, giving him powers he couldn't have dreamed of and sweeping him straight into the world of super-heroes, recruited by Booster Gold to help Batman destroy the evil sentient satellite Brother Eye. Shortly after achieving this goal, Jaime/Beetle disappeared.

One year later (although no time had passed for him), Jaime reappeared in the Texan desert and is now struggling to adjust to life as a reluctant (but also rather excited) hero with strange powers, mysterious enemies and a complicated home life – disappearing for a year tends to upset those closest to you.
